New traffic lights to improve driver safety at Riverwalk

A new set of traffic lights has been switched on at the entrance of Development Victoria’s Riverwalk Estate in Werribee today. 

Located at the intersection of Newmarket and Geelong Roads, the new intersection will connect Riverwalk residents with neighbouring estates and the traffic lights will allow safer access to Geelong Road. 

Development Victoria’s Acting General Manager for Integrated Housing and Land Peter Hood said switching on of these traffic lights is an important part of improving safety for residents of Riverwalk. 

“The completion of these intersection works highlights the progress Development Victoria is making at Riverwalk,” Mr. Hood said.  

“These traffic lights will ensure the Riverwalk Estate is convenient and safe for the local community to access.”

The new traffic lights will mean motorists no longer need to wait to select safe gaps when turning from busy Geelong Road into Newmarket Road – which is the main entrance point for the Riverwalk Estate in Werribee. 

Werribee is one of the fastest growing areas in Greater Melbourne, with the population expected to grow by over 70,000 people in the next 20 years. Situated just 1.5 kilometres from Werribee Town Centre, Riverwalk has become one of Development Victoria’s most highly sought-after residential developments, with over 2,000 new homes expected to be delivered by 2025. 

The new intersection was a priority for the growing neighbourhood. Development Victoria worked in partnership with VicRoads, Wyndham City Council and Powercor to deliver the intersection. Minor works will continue on footpaths and landscaping over coming weeks.   

Development Victoria also continues to lead other key development projects at Riverwalk, which include landscape works to improve Lollypop Creek and the creation of a new acoustic wall beside the Princes Highway.
