Exciting new features have been announced for the Ballarat Major Events Precinct, as construction continues to transform the venue into a first-class destination for sport and events in regional Victoria.
The upgrades to Mars Stadium include a new larger videoboard featuring artwork by local Wadawurrung artist Dr Deanne Gilson, creating a more engaging match-day experience while celebrating the region’s rich culture and connection to Country.
At the heart of the redevelopment is a new 5,000-seat grandstand, increasing Mars Stadium’s seated capacity to 10,000. The design features Wadawurrung-inspired brickwork patterning, a nod to the local heritage and identity of Ballarat.
A new southern viewing embankment will provide enhanced viewing for spectators at the Stadium, while extra change rooms will enable double-headers and support more inclusive participation across men’s and women’s competitions.
Construction, led by Kane Nicholson Joint Venture, is progressing across the precinct. Works are also underway on the new athletics track and pavilion on the former Ballarat Showgrounds site, which will include new lighting, landscaping, storage facilities and the reuse of the existing Mars Stadium videoboard.
Once complete, the Ballarat Major Events Precinct will continue to host AFL and AFLW matches for the Western Bulldogs, while attracting new events that will bring visitors and economic benefits to the region.
The project is expected to be completed in late 2026.
This project is being delivered by Development Victoria in partnership with Sport and Recreation Victoria and the City of Ballarat to ensure the Ballarat Major Events Precinct redevelopment caters to the local community and delivers positive outcomes for the region.
