The Victorian Government has released the concept design for the new Ballarat ‘GovHub’ precinct being developed next to Civic Hall in the heart of Ballarat’s CBD.

Award-winning design firm John Wardle Architects are leading the design of the new precinct, which has been endorsed by the Office of the Victorian Government Architect and will create an iconic, architecturally designed building that complements Ballarat’s rich heritage.

Key design elements for the GovHub include: five storeys of office space, a glass conservatory, ground floor spaces for commercial/retail uses, and a public space for a café/bar, gallery space or other public gatherings.

The precinct will also include a reconstructed lower hall space, basement carparking, and strong pedestrian links to the Ballarat CBD and Ballarat Station.

Development Victoria is leading the development of the new precinct, in partnership with Regional Development Victoria, the Department of Premier and Cabinet and Ballarat City Council. Once complete, the Ballarat GovHub will provide office space for up to 1,000 government employees, including 600 new positions to the city. It will help revitalise the CBD, generating long-term jobs and increased business confidence and investment.

The concept design is being showcased at an ‘open house’ event at the Ballarat Mining Exchange today. This will provide an opportunity for the community to preview the concept design, speak with the architects, and provide feedback on the design. The event is being held at the Ballarat Mining Exchange between 10am and 2pm.
