All Development Victoria led projects in the Victorian Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program (RSIP) are now officially under construction, marking a major milestone in the delivery of new and upgraded sporting facilities right across regional Victoria.
Delivered by Development Victoria on behalf of Sport and Recreation Victoria, the program is transforming local sporting hubs into modern, accessible and inclusive venues that support community participation, attract major events, and create lasting benefits for regional economies.
Project highlights across the regions
Ballarat Major Events Precinct
Construction is transforming the precinct into a premier destination for sport and major events. The redevelopment includes a new 5,000-seat grandstand, upgraded athletics facilities, and a new southern viewing embankment.
Across town, the Bendigo Showgrounds redevelopment is bringing new life to a historic community venue. Works include a new multipurpose pavilion with a flexible event space, upgrades to the grass arena and lighting, and improvements to entrances and fencing.
Bendigo Stadium is undergoing a significant upgrade, delivering a new two-court annex, refurbishment of existing courts, improved lighting, and solar panels. The works also include upgraded utilities, new car parking, accessibility improvements, and a backup generator.
In one of Victoria’s fastest-growing communities, a new sports centre will provide indoor courts, social spaces, and outdoor recreation areas.
Stead Park Hockey Facility Redevelopment
The redevelopment will deliver a modern pavilion, upgraded pitch, lighting and improved access for players and spectators.
A new sports and recreation facility is taking shape in Geelong’s south, featuring multi-sport courts, gymnastics and dance studios, and inclusive facilities such as a sensory room and Changing Places amenities.
Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park
Works in Morwell are creating a more welcoming and functional space for players and visitors, with a new grandstand, upgraded pitches, lighting and amenities.
The upgrades at Morwell Gun Club include a new trap shooting range and fencing, player shelters, LED lighting and upgraded car park, improving safety and usability for local sports groups.
Collaboration and community at the heart
Thousands of Victorians have played a role in shaping these projects. We’ve engaged with local councils, Traditional Owners, sporting clubs and community members to ensure the new facilities reflect local priorities and cultural heritage.
Through a series of community engagement opportunities across 2024 and 2025, more than 4,000 people visited Engage Victoria project pages, with over 350 people participating directly through surveys, drop-in sessions and information sessions.
Feedback gathered from these sessions highlighted widespread community support, with residents welcoming the boost to local facilities, job opportunities and the prospect of attracting more regional events.
Supporting local jobs and regional economies
Construction of the RSIP projects is already supporting local jobs, apprenticeships and procurement opportunities across the regions. Many head contractors and suppliers have been sourced locally, helping to boost regional economies while delivering high-quality infrastructure for local communities.
Looking ahead
The 8 Regional Sports Infrastructure Program projects are expected to be completed in 2026 to 2027, with communities already beginning to see the benefits of this investment in participation, inclusion and regional growth.
Development Victoria is proud to be delivering 8 of the 16 Regional Sports Infrastructure Program projects, on behalf of Sport and Recreation Victoria in partnership with local councils, ensuring every venue is built to serve its community for generations to come.
