Development Victoria is proud to sponsor the Multicultural Association of Property Professionals (MAPP), an organisation committed to supporting its members from culturally diverse backgrounds to develop in their property and construction industry.
As part of our sponsorship, members of our Culturally Diverse Working Group joined their Development Victoria colleagues at an end of year event at MAPP, which was themed “Wear Your Culture”.
At the event, a panel comprising Rohini Kappadath from the Immigratio Musuem, Frank Livoti from AECOM & Hua Feng from Embodied Communications, shared their personal journeys, offering insights into the power of authenticity in the workplace.
Ben Peach, the Chair of our Culturally Diverse Working Group and a Senior Development Manager at Development Victoria, said it was a thrill to be around like-minded people who had similar experiences from different cultures, all embracing their authentic self.
Seeing so many people in their cultural dress made me wonder how beautiful a place it would be if it were normal to wear your cultural clothing into the office and it's considered normal.
Ben Peach, Senior Development Manager
Umair Abdul-Qayyum, a member of our Culturally Diverse Working Group and an Acting Project Manager at Development Victoria said the event felt like stepping into a giant global family reunion.
It was a delightful reminder that we all carry a tapestry of unique stories, traditions, and identities we’re unapologetically proud of.
Umair Abdul-Qayyum, Acting Project Manager
Other members of our Culturally Diverse Working Group who attended included Erene Niyonsaba from our Housing Team and Elle Armstrong from our Civic Infrastructure team.
