Works are now underway on the Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park in Morwell, bringing a whole range of new and improved facilities to one of the Latrobe Valley’s most loved sporting venues.

Newly appointed head contractor Building Engineering Pty Ltd are delivering the exciting upgrades, which include a new grandstand pavilion with change rooms and amenities, redeveloped and upgraded pitches with new lighting and player facilities, improved car parking, and new change room facilities.

Importantly, the new grandstand will continue to honour the legacy of Don Di Fabrizio, a highly respected local figure and former president of the Morwell Falcons Soccer Club, recognising his incredible contribution to sport in the region.

The park is home to a number of local sporting clubs, including Falcons 2000 Soccer Club, Gippsland United FC, Latrobe Valley Soccer League and Gippsland Referees, and plays a key role as a venue for outdoor events.

A Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony was held on site to mark the beginning of works, led by Traditional Owner Michelle Dow on behalf of the Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation, recognising the site’s connection to Country and the project’s commitment to working together.

“We’re proud to be delivering this important project on behalf of the Victorian Government for the Morwell community,” said Benjamin Delaney, Acting Group Head Civic Infrastructure at Development Victoria.

These upgrades will make Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park a more welcoming and inclusive space for local clubs, families and visitors to enjoy.

In addition to the park redevelopment, Building Engineering has also been appointed to deliver upgrades to the Morwell Gun Club. The project will include a new trap shooting range and security fencing.

These projects are being delivered by Development Victoria on behalf of Sport and Recreation Victoria and has involved close collaboration with the Latrobe City Council to ensure the Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park, and Morwell Gun Club upgrades cater to the local community and deliver positive outcomes for the region.
