The Bendigo Showgrounds redevelopment has taken a major step forward, with the appointment of AW Nicholson as head contractor to lead the works at this key regional venue.
This appointment marks an exciting milestone for the project, which is being delivered as part of the Victorian Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program.
AW Nicholson is a Victorian-based construction company with a strong local presence and offices in Bendigo. The company brings extensive experience delivering regional and community infrastructure, with recent projects including the Bendigo Law Courts and the Warracknabeal Education Precinct, making them well-placed to deliver this important project for the Bendigo community.
Upgrades to the Showgrounds include the construction of a new multipurpose pavilion featuring an event space, and improvements to the grass arena with upgraded lighting, and upgrades to entrances and fencing. The redevelopment will support local jobs and businesses throughout construction and strengthen the Showgrounds reputation as a vibrant venue for events in the region.
Works are set to begin on site soon, with completion expected in late 2026.
Hannah Clement, Executive General Manager Civic Infrastructure at Development Victoria, said the appointment is a major milestone for the project.
The Showgrounds are a much-loved part of the Bendigo community, and these upgrades will deliver a modern, inclusive and accessible space for events and gatherings of all kinds.
This project is being delivered by Development Victoria in partnership with Sport and Recreation Victoria which has involved close collaboration with the City of Greater Bendigo, and the Bendigo Agricultural Show Society. This will ensure the Bendigo Showgrounds upgrades cater to the local community and deliver positive outcomes for the region.
