Major upgrades are delivering long-term benefits for the Latrobe Valley as part of the Victorian Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, supporting community participation, regional development and local jobs.

Delivered by Development Victoria on behalf of Sport and Recreation Victoria, the projects at Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park (GSEP) and Morwell Gun Club are strengthening Latrobe’s  role as a regional hub for sport, events and community activity.

Construction is progressing well at the Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park, with the pavilion ground slab and change pod slabs now complete, precast panels installed, sand subbase laid for the elite main pitch, and levels and irrigation completed for Pitch 3. Structural works for the pavilion and change pod are next, followed by installation of turf to the new pitches.

These upgrades will increase the venue’s capacity to host regional and national events, attract visitors to the Latrobe Valley and boost local business activity through increased visitation and spend.  Beyond event attraction, the upgrades will deliver substantial benefits to the local community by improving the quality, accessibility, and inclusiveness of the facilities. The works include enhanced amenities that better support female participation, improvements to accessibility throughout the park grounds and buildings. Modernised infrastructure will also provide safer, more comfortable environments for players, volunteers, officials, and spectators, encouraging greater community use and sustained participation in sport and recreation.

Meanwhile, upgrades at Morwell Gun Club are now complete, with trap machines installed and commissioned, new facilities delivered and landscaping finalised, providing modern, safe and accessible infrastructure to support community participation and training opportunities.

These projects deliver strong economic outcomes, with a number of subcontractors engaged from the Latrobe Valley and broader Gippsland region. Demolition of the former Don Di Fabrizio Grandstand at Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park was completed by Delta Group’s Latrobe Valley team, supporting local jobs and skills during construction.

Hannah Clement, Executive General Manager Civic Infrastructure at Development Victoria, said the projects demonstrate the Government’s commitment to strengthening regional communities.

These projects are about delivering high-quality infrastructure for the communities. As we upgrade key venues in Morwell, we’re focused on creating local employment, engaging regional contractors and suppliers, and building facilities that will serve the Latrobe Valley well into the future. It’s about getting the job done properly and leaving assets the community can be proud of

Together, these projects are helping build a more active, connected and resilient Latrobe Valley, delivering high-quality facilities that support inclusion, regional growth and long-term community benefit.

These projects are being delivered by Development Victoria on behalf of Sport and Recreation Victoria.  The Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park project has involved close collaboration with Latrobe City Council to ensure the venue meets the needs of the growing community, while the Morwell Gun Club upgrade has been delivered in partnership with the Club to support local participation and regional training opportunities.
