August was an exciting month for Lendlease as it celebrated the launch of the 34-level Melbourne Quarter Tower (MQT) as well as construction starting on its new waterfront residential development, Regatta at Collins Wharf in the Victoria Harbour precinct.
Works commenced on MQT in April 2021 and Development Victoria was proud to attend the topping out ceremony in early September 2023.
After 2 million working hours, the tower reached practical completion in June 2024.
During this time, it reached a peak on site workforce of 450, with 4,389 site inductions.
MQT has been founded on 276 piles and houses the equivalent of 20 Olympic-sized swimming pools of concrete that was delivered to site by over 7,500 trucks!
Approximately 2.7 million lineal metres of reinforcement was delivered and installed on the project - that’s the equivalent of the distance between Melbourne to Perth.
It was a project that had the unique challenge of having to build over Wurundjeri Way and on average, 19,000 vehicles passed under the project on a daily basis, while it was under construction.
The Melbourne Quarter community is growing rapidly and MQT is already home to Medibank and Beca, with Seven Network joining them in the coming months.
Development Victoria has been proud to work with Lendlease to help deliver the Melbourne Quarter Precinct - situated between Flinders Street and Collins Street - and it was an honour to have the CEO of Development Victoria, Angela Skandarajah be invited to cut the ribbon and officially open the building.
On completion, Melbourne Quarter will accommodate approximately 14,000 workers, over 3,000 residents and offer around 5,000 square metres of retail, including cafes, bars, restaurants and shops and 1,000 square metres of community space.
Also in August, Lendlease celebrated the start of construction of a new development at Collins Wharf.
Lendlease’s new waterfront residential development, Regatta at Collins Wharf, is the next chapter of the Victoria Harbour precinct, situated between the Yarra River and the harbour.
It will be a 29-storey development, featuring 317 homes, and is the second of six proposed residential developments planned for Collins Wharf.
The precinct has already attracted a high level of interest from buyers seeking the best of city and waterfront living, initiating an early sales release of residences in the third development for the precinct, Ancora at Collins Wharf.
The Victorian Government charged Development Victoria (originally Docklands Authority) with responsibility for Docklands in 1991.
Development Victoria continues to oversee development in Docklands area.
Now more than 70 per cent complete, Docklands is an example of ongoing partnerships between all levels of Government and the private sector and is one of Australia’s best examples of value creation and capture from a government perspective.
The urban renewal of Docklands is delivering housing, jobs and community infrastructure, as well as connecting the CBD with its waterfront via the extension of the western edge of the CBD.
