Render of stadium exterior

The new sports centre in Armstrong Creek has officially been given a name by Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, recognising the deep Cultural Heritage of the area and the role of Language in shaping a sense of place.

Tarratarra Stadium (pronounced TAR-RA-TAR-RA) translates to “many wings”. The name was inspired by the River Red Gum Ghost Moth, which visited Wadawurrung Woman Corrina Eccles along the creek.

The intricate patterns of the moth’s wings are reflected throughout the building’s design, including the façade, internal wall linings and signage, connecting the new facility with the natural environment and cultural stories of Wadawurrung Country.

Naming the facility in Wadawurrung Language helps strengthen recognition of Wadawurrung’s continuing connection to the area, supports Language revitalisation and reflects Development Victoria’s commitment to working in partnership with Traditional Owners.

Construction is continuing, with internal fitout underway including services rough-in and wall and ceiling works. External works including kerbs, footpaths and the electrical substation have also been completed.

When finished, the stadium will feature 4 indoor courts, a civic plaza with outdoor courts, skating and parkour areas, informal play spaces and landscaped areas for community events.

Construction is expected to be completed in late 2026.

Development Victoria is delivering 8 new and upgraded sporting infrastructure projects across regional Victoria over the coming years as part of the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, bringing locals the sporting facilities they want and need, attracting visitors to the regions, and providing opportunities for local businesses through the delivery of these projects.

This project is being delivered by Development Victoria in partnership with Sport and Recreation Victoria and the City of Greater Geelong to ensure the sports centre caters to the local community and delivers positive outcomes for the region.
