Development Victoria will act as master developer for the East Werribee Precinct, a long-term project that will become a new centre for housing, jobs and community services in Melbourne’s western corridor.
Acting Executive General Manager Precincts Ronan Mellan said due to its size and location, the project presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform surplus government land into a mixed-use precinct that supports diverse, inclusive and sustainable communities.
The first phase of the project will focus on planning and design to inform the infrastructure and services needed to support long-term growth in the precinct, as well as land remediation activities.

“This work will set the precinct up for the future delivery phase, which is intended to be facilitated in partnership with the private sector.”
Development at East Werribee is expected to occur over 30 years and will deliver a diverse range of housing options for the community, including around 10% affordable housing.
A significant portion of the site will also be developed for employment related uses, to support new jobs and industries to locate in the area.
A strong commitment to environmental sustainability and climate resilience will be a key theme embedded throughout the project.
The outcome at completion will be a precinct that complements the surrounding suburbs and provides high quality amenities that will support residents from across Melbourne’s west.
Development Victoria will work closely with the private sector, key stakeholders and the community to coordinate the planning and delivery of the precinct and enable significant housing and employment outcomes in Melbourne’s west.
