The Victorian Government is pleased to be moving ahead with a preferred development partner to deliver approximately 70% of the planned homes at the iconic Fitzroy Gasworks Site in inner Melbourne.

The Fitzroy Gasworks site is delivering approximately 1,200 much needed homes, including 20% affordable, supporting the objectives of the Victorian Government’s Housing Statement by providing more homes close to existing jobs, transport and services.

Transformation of the site is already well underway, with students enjoying the Wurun Senior Campus and the new Bundha Sports Centre (Fitzroy Gasworks Sports Centre) close to completion.

Development Victoria is now working with the preferred development partner to finalise the contract and will inform the community of the successful development partner in the coming months.

Once this is in place, design work will commence in earnest before seeking planning approvals.

Group Head Precincts Niall Cunningham said transforming the former Fitzroy Gasworks is a unique and significant development opportunity to deliver housing close to Melbourne’s CBD.

“Fitzroy Gasworks will set a new benchmark for urban renewal and affordable and sustainable living in one of Melbourne’s most historic and established suburbs,” said Niall

We are excited to be moving to this next important stage to get the right development partner on board and look forward to making an announcement in the coming months.

The Development Plan ensures the homes on site reflect the local character of Fitzroy and provide diverse public spaces to enjoy with urban greening and vertical and roof top vegetation.

The homes planned for the site will be delivered in stages with completion targeted for late 2028.
