Exciting news for Morwell with the announcement of the name of Development Victoria’s Morwell Regional Housing Project, to be known as Olearia.
The Olearia development at 10 English Street, Morwell will deliver a mix of social, affordable and private homes close to jobs, services, and transport, helping to address growing housing demand in the Gippsland region.
The name Olearia draws inspiration from the native flowering plant species found in south-eastern Australia, including the Morwell area, which bears distinctive daisy-like blooms. Just as the plant is woven into the local landscape, the Olearia development will become an important part of Morwell’s future, creating a vibrant and connected community.
Acting Executive General Manager of Housing at Development Victoria, Chris Hatcher, said the naming of the project marks an important milestone.
The name Olearia reflects the strong connection between this new community and its local environment. Just like the native plant, Olearia will bring new life and growth to Morwell, providing homes, opportunities, and a thriving neighbourhood for years to come.
Development Victoria is delivering the Olearia development which aligns with the Victorian Government’s Housing Statement. Olearia will also contribute to the delivery of around 600 homes on land previously earmarked for the former Commonwealth Games sites across regional Victoria.
