Staff profile — Kathleen Perrone

Development Manager Kathleen Perrone made the transition from the construction industry just over a year ago when she joined Development Victoria. 

Long fascinated by the built form, Kathleen enrolled to study architecture but quickly realised there was one flaw in her plan– she couldn’t draw. Not to be stalled in her pursuit, Kathleen changed her path and began a Master’s in Construction Management at the University of Melbourne.   

Upon graduation Kathleen earned a place in a construction graduate program where she gained invaluable exposure to the full construction lifecycle from tendering and design, to cost management and on-site delivery. 

"I’m most grateful for what the graduate program taught me beyond the technical construction knowledge and skills.  There was a strong focus on the importance of building and maintaining good relationships and we were shown how to develop the awareness and self-reflection needed to collaborate across a range of disciplines in the industry."

There’s no doubt that this experience put Kathleen in good stead to make her mark on Australia’s largest urban renewal project – Fishermans Bend. 

Development Victoria’s aim is to transform the former General Motors Holden (GMH) site at Fishermans Bend into a precinct of excellence. 

The former GMH site is a key catalyst project for Fishermans Bend and showcases the transition of the Employment Precinct into one of Australia's leading places for technology and innovation.

“I’m excited by the potential the GMH site represents to deliver positive change for the State.  It is easy to appreciate the vision for the ‘precinct of excellence’ to grow Victoria’s engineering, technology and advanced manufacturing capabilities into the future and ultimately transform the Fishermans Bend area,” said Kathleen.
