Crane pulls down tank walls on construction site

Works to demolish the redundant water tank at 421 Upper Heidelberg Road, Ivanhoe, are well underway. This marks a significant step in the project to address the growing demand for quality housing in the inner north-east.

“We’re putting local jobs first and are proud to have awarded Victorian based contractor Delta Group the contract to safely remove the decommissioned Yarra Valley water tank which hasn’t been used since 2004,” said Penny Forrest, Group Head, Housing.

We’re driving this work to support our commitment to deliver on the Housing Statement with plans to transform the underutilised site to accommodate more homes close to existing schools, hospitals, jobs, and transport.

On 15 July 2024, Banyule City Council conditionally approved the Development Plan and Council Park Concept for the site following feedback from the community.

Penny said;

As part of this project, we’re working with Banyule City Council to develop a new local park, which will replace the current park and offer improved recreational spaces for the community to enjoy.

The Development Plan includes approximately 275 apartments with environmentally sustainable design elements and affordable housing available to eligible households, increasing the quantity of affordable housing in established areas across Melbourne.

An expression of interest for a development partner to work with Development Victoria to develop the site in accordance with the Development Plan ran form 30 May 2024 to 30 April 2024 and submissions are currently under evaluation.
