Our partnership with Y4Y Youth Force

Santhushya (Santhu) Perera joined Development Victoria just over four months ago through our partnership with Whitelion and their youth employment program, Y4Y Youth Force.

Whitelion builds meaningful relationships and create opportunities that enable young people to reconnect with society and reach their full potential through role modelling, mentoring, employment, leadership development programs, and outreach support.

Working alongside our Facilities & Office Coordinator Jarrod Whitwell, no two days have been the same for Santhu.

“The best thing about the role is the variety — I love being able to mix with a variety of people from across the business,” said Santhu.

This has been Santhu’s first time working in an office environment and she says the relationships she’s built with internal and external suppliers is one of her favourite things.

“I’ve learnt so much about the importance of building relationships and have really developed my problem-solving skills by shadowing Jarrod. These are skills I’ll take with me and use in the future.”

Speaking about the placement, Jarrod said, “It has been a pleasure working with Santhu and pass on some of my experience working in the facilities industry. Being able to support Whitelion and be a part of the youth experience employment program has been very rewarding.”

Santhu finished her placement was Development Victoria last week — we wish her every success for the future!
