Aerial view of project areasDevelopment Victoria is progressing with development plans for land at Waurn Ponds, with a planning permit now approved by the City of Greater Geelong for the southern portion of the site.

The northern and southern portions of the project will deliver around 400 new homes across 2-80 Muir Road and 52-54 Baanip Boulevard.

Acting Group Head Housing, Nemesia Kennett, said the development will support regional growth by delivering more homes to the area, close to education, transport, and jobs.

This is an exciting step forward in bringing more housing supply to the Geelong region, with a diverse mix of homes that meet a range of accommodation needs.

“The site is ideally located just south of Waurn Ponds Railway Station, with nearby access to shops, schools, community and leisure facilities.”

At least 72 of the 400 homes will be dedicated to social and affordable housing, delivered in partnership with Homes Victoria.

Development Victoria is working closely with key stakeholders including the City of Greater Geelong and the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation to ensure appropriate and respectful planning for the site.

“We’re committed to working with Traditional Owners, local council and community partners to ensure the development delivers long-term benefits for the region,” Ms Kennett said.

Planning for the northern portion of the site is also underway.
