Plans to transform central Dandenong into a vibrant economic and residential hub are progressing with the approval of stage one of Capital Alliance’s development.

Located at 139-157 Thomas Street, the first stage will deliver new homes, services and employment opportunities.

Executive General Manager Precincts, Niall Cunningham, said the approval marks an important milestone for the Revitalising Central Dandenong Initiative.

This first stage of Capital Alliance’s development is going to create much needed housing close to jobs, public transport, and services as well as a new childcare centre to support local families and workers.

“It will also boost the local economy with new shops, cafés and food venues, including spaces that support and complement the Little India precinct,” Niall said.

Demolition works on the first stage are set to begin soon, and nearby businesses and residents will be notified about upcoming works.

The Revitalising Central Dandenong (RCD) initiative is supported by a $290 million commitment from the Victorian Government to transform central Dandenong into a vibrant and thriving economic hub.

Around $700 million has been invested to date to rejuvenate and re-establish Dandenong’s city centre as the capital of Melbourne’s growing south east region.

Once complete, it is expected to attract more than $1 billion in private sector investment, create 5,000 jobs and enhance Dandenong’s appeal as a place to live, work and visit.
