1Development Victoria has been awarded the Property Council of Australia/Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation & Excellence award for Government Leadership for Collins Square in Docklands.

This award recognises significant innovation and excellence of a local, state or federal government department or authority in its dealings with the property investment and development industries.

“We are thrilled to have been recognised for our leadership role in the Collins Square project,” said Geoff Ward, Group Head Precincts at Development Victoria. “It’s an outstanding example of how government and the private sector can work together to deliver an incredible result for the project partners as well as business tenants and local community.”

Collins Square is one of Australia’s largest commercial mixed-use developments, integrating 250,000 m2 of commercial office space over a city block on Collins Street, Docklands. Collins Square consists of the heritage-listed Goods Shed South and Lantern building, and five commercial towers connected by high-quality retail space.

“A project of this scale requires close collaboration with all stakeholders and a strong appreciation of the project’s place within the broader Docklands precinct. We are delighted with the outcome and proud to be associated with such a high-quality development right in the heart of Docklands and Melbourne,” Mr Ward said.

Development Victoria worked cohesively with a range of stakeholders across all levels of government and the private sector to see the project come to life.

Working closely with Development Victoria, Walker Corporation opened the first two towers in 2012, followed by the third and fourth in 2017. The last tower was completed in 2019. The development has delivered a vibrant, mixed-use commercial precinct, attracting global and national businesses into Docklands including KPMG, CBA, ATO, Pearson Publishing and Transurban.

“I’d like to thank our private sector partner, Walker Corporation, for its outstanding work in delivering Collins Square,” Mr Ward said.

Collins Square was also named Victorian State Development of the Year in September this year.

With 48 retail outlets and a state-of-the-art business hub, the Collins Square development has been curated to deliver significant benefits to the local community and workers. All lifestyle and day-to-day needs are catered for, as well as a diverse range of restaurants and food stalls.
