Remediation and demolition works now underway at the former Ballarat Saleyards site.

The works, which are expected to take 12 months to complete, will include demolition of hard stand areas, excavation and soil movement, temporary site sheds and parking areas.

Acting Executive General Manager Housing, Nemesia Kennett, said remediation is a critical step toward unlocking the sites full future potential.

Melbourne based company Industrial Environmental Services has been appointed to deliver the remediation works in accordance with strict regulations and standards set by the Environmental Protection Authority Victoria (EPA).

The future redevelopment of the site will be guided by the City of Ballarat, with support from Development Victoria and the Department of Transport and Planning to facilitate urban renewal and a new employment precinct.
