Arist impression of sporting field and building

Exciting progress is being made on the Stead Park hockey facility upgrades, with a shortlist of head contractors now selected to bring the project to life.

Following a strong response to a recent Expression of Interest (EOI) process, Development Victoria has shortlisted a group of five highly qualified contractors to move forward in the tender process.

The shortlisted contractors were announced at the Industry Capability Network Geelong Showcase on 1 April. The shortlist includes:

The shortlisted bidders all have similar experience in delivering sport and recreation infrastructure and delivering projects in regional areas. This milestone brings the redevelopment of Geelong’s premier hockey venue located in Corio another step closer to reality.

The project will transform Stead Park into a modern facility, providing accessible amenities for players, officials, and spectators alike. The new pavilion will feature four change rooms, match officials' rooms, a canteen, storage spaces, and a first-aid room on the ground floor. The upper level will offer a social space, meeting room, kitchen, seating and a terrace overlooking the pitches, ensuring a welcoming environment for the entire community.

Upgrades to the western pitch, including new fencing, drainage, sports lighting, and an electronic scoreboard, will enhance the park’s ability to host national-level hockey events. Additional parking and improved access will make the venue more accessible for players and fans.

The redevelopment is also set to provide a significant boost to the local economy by creating jobs and supporting local businesses throughout the construction phase.

Development Victoria’s Acting Group Head of Civic Infrastructure, Benjamin Delaney, expressed enthusiasm about the project’s progress.

We’re thrilled to have reached this important stage in the redevelopment of Stead Park. The level of interest from contractors has been fantastic, and we’re looking forward to working with the shortlisted companies to deliver exciting new facilities for the Geelong hockey community.

This project is being delivered by Development Victoria in partnership with Sport and Recreation Victoria and City of Greater Geelong, and has involved close collaboration with the Geelong Hockey Association and Hockey Victoria to ensure the Stead Park upgrades cater to the local community and deliver positive outcomes for the region.
