Victoria’s most famous coastal landscape has come into view following the structural completion of a rooftop lookout at the new Twelve Apostles Visitor Experience Centre, a project that will change how domestic and international visitors experience the region.

The Visitor Experience Centre and surrounding precinct will provide a world-class experience for the millions of people who visit this iconic destination each year, celebrating the area’s cultural heritage and encouraging longer stays and increased spending in the region.

Completion of the rooftop structure represents ‘topping out’ of the building, a significant milestone ahead of its completion late next year. The milestone was marked with a sheoak tree that will form part of an extensive program of planting and revegetation at the precinct, including a rooftop garden alongside the new lookout.

The tree was chosen by the Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation and will complement a Welcome Garden at the precinct to celebrate the Eastern Maar community’s cultural and environmental values.

Development Victoria’s Executive General Manager Civic Infrastructure Hannah Clement said reaching the topping out milestone is a proud moment that reflects the dedication and teamwork of everyone involved.

This milestone represents significant progress in the redevelopment of the Visitor Experience Centre.

We’re proud to be working alongside our project partners - Regional Development Victoria, Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority, Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation, Grimshaw Architects and Aspect Studios to deliver an asset that will benefit both locals and visitors alike.

The project is already delivering benefits while in the construction phase, creating up to 90 full-time positions. A range of local companies, including operators from Warrnambool, Colac, Geelong and Ballarat have been involved, providing a boost to the local construction sector and supply chains.

The Twelve Apostles Precinct Redevelopment is funded by the Australian and Victorian Governments through the Geelong City Deal. The Visitor Experience Centre is being delivered by Development Victoria with Kane Constructions as head contractor and will be managed by the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority. The precinct will be delivered in cooperation with the Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation.
