Early works have started to transform more almost three thousand square metres of the concrete concourse in Victoria Point next to Marvel Stadium into a green oasis of native plants.

Development Victoria is working with the Victoria Point Owners’ Corporation and City of Melbourne to replace and expand the current planter boxes with a softened design, utilising curves and extra seating areas.

New trees will be planted to increase canopy cover and provide shade for residents and visitors to enjoy during the warmer months. There will also be increased lighting to improve security and the concourse will be transformed with etchings to provide an extra level of interest for the thousands of people who use this space when travelling to Docklands or attending Marvel Stadium events.

The 630 sqm of large canopy trees and native plantings will lead to a total of 2,850 sqm of green cover – representing a 103 per cent increase.

The 2,200 sqm of permeable garden bed surfaces will reduce stormwater runoff by redirecting rainwater to dry “creek beds” and then to a storage tank on the lower level.

The project funding consists of contributions from Development Victoria and the City of Melbourne’s Urban Forest Fund.

Stage 1 of the project is anticipated to be completed in the middle of 2023.
