Construction is officially underway on the new Waurn Ponds Sporting Complex, marking an exciting new chapter for sport and recreation in Geelong’s south.

Delivered by Development Victoria on behalf of Sport and Recreation Victoria, the project is part of the Victorian Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, which is supporting vibrant, active communities across regional Victoria.

The complex will feature six multi-sport courts, a regional-level gymnastics facility, community dance studio , as well as flexible meeting and social spaces with a kiosk and public lounge.

Designed for everyone, the new facility will also include a parents’ room, Changing Places facility, sensory room and multi-faith room, ensuring accessibility and inclusion for all members of the community. More than 300 car parking spaces and electric vehicle charging stations will also be available.

ADCO Construction has been appointed as head contractor to deliver the project, alongside Principal Design Consultants ARM Architecture.

Recognition of Wadawurrung Country is at the heart of the design for this project, with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation involved throughout the design process. The colour palate, materials, façade, artwork and landscaping have all been informed by Wadawurrung People.

The facility will have high standards of sustainability, with the building registered to receive a 5-star Green Star building certification.

Hannah Clement, Executive General Manager Civic Infrastructure at Development Victoria, said the project represents a major investment in community health and connection.

The Waurn Ponds Sporting Complex will be a vibrant hub for sport, recreation and community life, a place where people of all ages and abilities can come together, be active and connect. We’re thrilled to see works now underway.

Construction is expected to be completed in early 2027.

Development Victoria is delivering eight new and upgraded sporting infrastructure projects across regional Victoria over the coming years as part of the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, bringing locals the sporting facilities they want and need, attracting visitors to the regions, and providing opportunities for local businesses through the delivery of these projects.

This project is being delivered by Development Victoria of behalf of Sport and Recreation Victoria and in partnership with the  Greater City of Geelong to ensure the sports centre caters to the local community and delivers positive outcomes for the region.
