This International Women’s Day, women across the Bendigo Showgrounds and Bendigo Stadium projects are helping balance the scales through leadership, collaboration and action.
Delivered in partnership between Development Victoria, Sports and Recreation Victoria, City of Greater Bendigo, Fairbrother and AW Nicholson, these projects are upgrading two of Bendigo’s important community facilities. Behind the progress on site is a growing cohort of women working across project management, design and delivery roles.
Together, these teams are upgrading two significant community facilities that will support sport, events and regional activity for decades to come. Just as importantly, they reflect a shift in an industry where more women are stepping into leadership, technical and site based roles.
The partnership across organisations has created an environment where different skills and perspectives are valued, and where women are leading complex conversations, managing risk, collaboration with stakeholders and delivering outcomes for regional communities.
Senior Project Manager Vicki Babics said this year’s theme ‘Balance the Scales’ is a call to act with fairness and courage.
Genuine change begins when we stop to listen and create space for voices that have been overlooked or unheard. It is a call for us to act together with fairness and courage.
Project Manager Leanne Longmuir said her experience in construction shows progress is possible.
As a female Project Manager in the construction industry, I am grateful to have had a positive and rewarding experience. When women are supported and empowered to lead, we help create a more inclusive future, in which we can help truly balance the scales for the next generation.
This International Women’s Day, we recognise the women working across these projects and the partnerships helping create lasting change, on site and beyond.
The Bendigo Showgrounds redevelopment and Bendigo Stadium upgrade are part of the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, supporting regional communities with modern facilities that strengthen participation, events and local economies.
