Works to begin for the Upper Stony Creek transformation project

The project will rehabilitate a 1.2km stretch of the creek, between Furlong Road and Gilmour Road, including planting 2,200 new indigenous trees, and turning the existing concrete drain back to a natural state.

The area will become a vibrant community space for everyone to enjoy, with walking paths, wetlands and a revegetated creek bed.

Peter Hood, Development Victoria’s Acting General Manager for Integrated Housing and Land, says involvement in projects like this is an integral part of making Victoria a great place to live.

The $11.35 million project is a partnership across government and industry to revitalise the important waterway.

The project is being funded by:

• Australian Government ($4.76 million)
• Department of Environment Land Water and Planning ($2.04 million)
• Melbourne Water Corporation ($1.82 million)
• City West Water ($1.22 million)
• Development Victoria ($987,000)
• Brimbank City Council ($100,000)

Greenfleet will make a contribution towards subsequent revegetation works ($424,000).

Development Victoria is overseeing construction of the project while Brimbank City Council and Melbourne Water will maintain the site once the project is complete. The tender for the project has been awarded to Entracon with work expected to be completed in September 2019.
