Arist impression of new athletics track, included people racing and crowd cheering

Transformation of the former Ballarat Showgrounds site is on track as works will commence to make way for brand new sporting facilities and active public open space as part of the Ballarat Major Events Precinct upgrades.

Supported by the Victorian Government’s Ballarat Sports Package, the upgrades will deliver a new athletics track, spectator pavilion and seating, light towers, a storage shed and new public open space.

Victorian-based company, Ausdecom, will commence early works to prepare the land for the athletics track.

Group Head Civic Infrastructure, Hannah Clement, said the start of demolition is an exciting step in delivering state-of-the-art sports infrastructure for the Ballarat community.

Redeveloping the former Ballarat Showgrounds into a high-level athletics track will transform the area into a destination sporting precinct that will attract locals and visitors from across the state.

“Following community information sessions in June, we know that everyone is excited to see this project come to life,” said Hannah.

Development Victoria is delivering the project on behalf of Sport and Recreation Victoria.

The Ballarat Agricultural and Pastoral Society has recently vacated the site as part of its relocation to a new home in Mount Rowan.

Early works are expected to be complete in late 2024, with construction set to begin in early 2025.

The project will support local jobs and help to boost the region’s economy by utilising local supply chains throughout delivery and attracting more visitors to the Ballarat region.

Suppliers who are interested in providing goods or services on this project, should register their details on the ICN Gateway Page.
