Overview
Work is now complete on the $21.4 million extension of State Library Victoria’s (SLV) collection storage facility, as part of the Victorian Government’s Creative State strategy.
Since its establishment in 1854 as the first great public library in Australia, the State Library Victoria (SLV) has been a place where ideas, learning, culture, and creativity are nurtured and promoted.
Serving more than 5.8 million people, the SLV collections are housed both on-site in the CBD building, and at a purpose built store – Ballarat off-site storage module 1 (BOSS1) – at Federation University Australia in Ballarat.
SLV’s physical collection grows at approximately 2% per annum, and BOSS1 reached capacity by the end of 2017.
As part of SLV's strategy for ongoing collection storage, Development Victoria has delivered an additional off-site storage facility — Ballarat off-site storage module 2 (BOSS2).
BOSS2 is a specialist, climate-controlled facility for the storage of valuable and sensitive collection items including paintings, sculptures, costumes, film, and books.
Location
The Ballarat Offsite Storage Module 2 is located within Federation University, Ballarat.
