Overview
The redevelopment will deliver:
- A new multipurpose pavilion with flexible community and event spaces
- Upgrades to the grass arena and improved lighting
- Enhancements to all four entrances and new perimeter fencing
These upgrades will revitalise the Showgrounds, improving accessibility, safety and functionality while preserving its important role as a venue for cultural, agricultural and sporting events.
Delivered by Development Victoria in partnership with Sport and Recreation Victoria, the project is being delivered in collaboration with the Bendigo Agricultural Show Society and City of Greater Bendigo.
Construction began in 2025 and is expected to be completed in late 2026.

- Raised level and new grass surface for improved event quality

In March 2025, we invited the Bendigo community to attend information sessions, where the project team were available to share the designs and answer questions regarding the plans for Bendigo Showgrounds.
Community members were invited to provide a written submission on the project via Engage Victoria which was open from Wednesday 6 March until Thursday 3 April. This was the final opportunity to provide feedback on the project.

Development Victoria is delivering major upgrades to the Bendigo Showgrounds as part of the Victorian Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program.
The project includes:
- A new multipurpose pavilion with community and event spaces
- Arena upgrades, including new lighting, drainage and fencing
- Improvements to entrances, security and perimeter fencing
These upgrades will revitalise the Showgrounds, improving safety, accessibility and functionality for community, agricultural and cultural events.
Construction began in September 2025 and is expected to be completed by late 2026. Works will be staged to minimise impacts on events and site users.
Yes. The Bendigo Showgrounds will remain open throughout construction.
We’ll work closely with the Bendigo Agricultural Show Society to manage access and minimise disruptions for regular users and nearby residents.
The upgrades will:
- Create modern, inclusive and accessible facilities
- Support more community and regional events
- Boost local jobs and the Bendigo economy
The grass arena will be retained at its current size, with a new surface, lighting and drainage to improve functionality for a wider range of users.
The surrounding track will be repurposed with asphalt surfacing to improve access and provide extra event parking.
The new multipurpose pavilion will include:
- A flexible event and function space for up to 500 people
- Modern amenities and additional market sites
- Improved accessibility and external access points
The project is funded through the Victorian Government’s Bendigo Sports Package, delivered as part of the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program.
In March and April 2025, the community was invited to share feedback through information sessions, a live webinar and an Engage Victoria survey. This feedback helped shape the final design and ensured the upgrades reflect local needs and priorities.

Development Victoria is delivering the project on behalf of Sport and Recreation Victoria, in partnership with the City of Greater Bendigo and the Bendigo Agricultural Show Society.
Some trees will be removed to make way for the new pavilion and arena improvements, however, more trees will be planted, resulting in an overall net gain of greenery across the site.
