Overview
The redevelopment will deliver:
- a new multipurpose pavilion with flexible community and event spaces
- upgrades to the grass arena and improved lighting
- enhancements to all four entrances and new perimeter fencing.
These upgrades will revitalise the Showgrounds, improving accessibility, safety and functionality while preserving its important role as a venue for cultural, agricultural and sporting events.
Delivered by Development Victoria in partnership with Sport and Recreation Victoria, the project is being delivered in collaboration with the Bendigo Agricultural Show Society and City of Greater Bendigo.
Construction began in 2025 and is expected to be completed in late 2026.

Project outcomes
- Raised level and new grass surface for improved event quality
- Upgraded drainage and stormwater systems
- New perimeter fencing and additional gate entries for improved access
- No change to the existing arena size or shape
- Replacement of existing light towers with new poles and energy-efficient LED lighting relocated to the arena edge
- New pedestrian entries and ticket box at Holmes Road (Gate 1)
- Upgraded gates and new security fencing along Holmes Road
- Ground levelling and new hard surfacing to improve stall areas
- Additional seating, landscaping, trees and lighting to create a welcoming community space
- Function centre and market site with 500-seat capacity and inclusive and accessible facilities
- Additional amenities with external access to support events year-round
- New trafficable asphalt surface providing additional parking and improved access to exhibition spaces

Located at 42–72 Holmes Road, North Bendigo VIC 3550, just minutes from the Bendigo city centre.
Community engagement
In March 2025, we invited the Bendigo community to attend information sessions, where the project team were available to share the designs and answer questions regarding the plans for Bendigo Showgrounds.
Community members were invited to provide a written submission on the project via Engage Victoria which was open from Wednesday 6 March until Thursday 3 April. This was the final opportunity to provide feedback on the project.
