Overview
Construction is now underway on the new Waurn Ponds Sporting Complex, as part of the Victorian Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program.
Delivered by Development Victoria on behalf of Sport and Recreation Victoria, the project will create a new multi-sport facility for the growing Geelong region, providing opportunities for community participation, recreation and events.
The new Waurn Ponds Sporting Complex will include:
- six indoor multi-sport courts
- a regional-level gymnastics facility
- a dance studio
- car parking with electric vehicle charging stations.
The project will support local businesses and boost employment during delivery, creating a sustainable and inclusive community facility that meets the needs of the region now and into the future.
Construction began in October 2025 and is expected to be completed in early 2027.

Artist opportunity Expressions of Interest now open
Development Victoria is inviting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander artists and businesses to submit an Expression of Interest to create two original artworks for the new Waurn Ponds Sporting Complex in Mount Duneed.
This is an opportunity to contribute to a major regional project shaped in partnership with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners, creating a lasting cultural legacy for the community.
EOI submissions close 11:59pm, Sunday 15 March 2026.

In April 2025, the community was invited to a series of information sessions, including a drop-in sessions at Waurn Ponds Library and an online webinar, to learn more about the plans for the upgrades.
These sessions provided opportunities to view designs, ask questions, and share feedback, which helped inform the final planning and design stages.

Project location
The Waurn Ponds Sporting Complex is located at 173–213 Ghazeepore Road, Mount Duneed, within the City of Greater Geelong, on Wadawurrung Country.
The site is well connected to nearby roads and growing residential areas, providing easy access for the community.
