A new hub for ferry and boat operators on Harbour Esplanade South - planned for 2021 – will not only provide upgraded facilities but will also support the return of events and crowds back to Docklands.
Development Victoria is calling for expressions of interest to deliver the new hub which will support the charter fleet and ferry services in Victoria Harbour.
As part of Docklands’ continued development, Development Victoria and the City of Melbourne are encouraging interested parties to provide a creative solution for the hub, which will also deliver much-needed operations, public amenities and shelter in one of Docklands’ best-connected areas.

Harbour Esplanade South and Wharf 8 play a central role in providing connections within and across the Docklands precinct.

“It is a key pick up and drop off point for ferry and boat operators, has direct access to Marvel Stadium and has previously hosted Melbourne’s New Year’s Eve celebrations in Docklands,” said Geoff Ward, Group Head Precincts at Development Victoria.
“We are really interested to see what great ideas come forward. By improving facilities and creating an exciting offering, more people will be drawn to enjoy what the area has to offer.”
The Glasshouse space, that currently acts as an administration/ticket office and separate café for Port Phillip Ferries, will be removed to make way for the upgraded facilities which will breathe new life into the area.
Working closely with Development Victoria, City of Melbourne and other key stakeholders to deliver the project, interested parties will be offered the opportunity to take on a lease at Wharf 8, Harbour Esplanade South for up to five years.
The Expressions of Interest period runs from 18 December 2020 to 5 February 2021.
