Lexie joined Development Victoria through our intern program in 2018 during her last year of studying a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (Honours) at RMIT.
With an interest in delivering policy related outcomes associated with property development, Lexie knew from early on that she wanted to work for a state government organisation that would make a real difference to the community.
“Development Victoria has a unique mandate because in many respects we bridge the gap between government and the private sector. We have a responsibility to achieve social and community outcomes, in a commercially minded way, which aligns well with my own personal values,” said Lexie.
During her internship, Lexie was exposed to some great city-shaping projects as part of the ongoing revitalisation of Docklands, including the redevelopment of Central Pier and Harbour Esplanade.
“It was an incredible opportunity to work on a project of that time scale and apply learnings while still studying.”
Lexie now plays a key role in our Advisory Services team as an Assistant Development Manager. Development Victoria’s Advisory Services team provide development advice to internal and external stakeholders, and Lexie is working on initiatives to deliver affordable housing and build diverse communities.
“I love the diversity of my role. I get the chance to collaborate with people across the business, meet with external clients and touch on different projects at various stages which is really rewarding to see,” said Lexie.
In terms of her biggest lessons to date, Lexie said it’s been learning that asking questions isn’t a sign of weakness  in fact the more inquisitive you are, the better.
“I’m lucky enough to work in a supportive team so being able to assist different teams has actually turned out be incredibly rewarding - collaboration really is key. Taking the initiative to ask questions knowing that everyone is always happy to offer help and support my learning has been an essential element of my continued success at DV.”
Looking ahead, Lexie is excited to continue marking her mark at an organisation that delivers vibrant communities and precincts across Victoria.
