Galkangu Bendigo GovHub is officially open and brings together up to 1000 Victorian Government and City of Greater Bendigo employees from across one of Australia’s fastest growing regional cities to one, centralised location.

Creating GovHubs like Galkangu provides new economic and career opportunities for communities in Bendigo, Ballarat and Latrobe Valley, and a unique opportunity for public-sector staff to be part of the growth of regional Victoria.

“We are proud to have delivered Galkangu in collaboration with our great partners, Regional Development Victoria; local builder, Icon Fairbrother; and DJAARA (Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation),” said Development Victoria Group Head Civic Infrastructure, Hannah Clement.

Galkangu is an excellent example of how working together in a collaborative model can cultivate an innovative and sustainable development with Dja Dja Wurrung design elements embedded throughout the building.

“We are delighted to showcase Galkangu’s design features for our stakeholders who helped deliver this fantastic GovHub for Bendigo,” Hannah added.

The state-of-the-art building has achieved a 6-Star Green Star Design rating, with sustainability initiatives including solar panels, efficient indoor air quality systems, and water and energy monitoring systems.

The design reflects Bendigo’s cultural heritage and the region’s Traditional Owners, by integrating Dja Dja Wurrung design elements, ideas and language into the architecture, landscape, and spaces. We look forward to celebrating in detail the important co-design process and outcomes in the weeks to come.
