A new open space will soon open on the corner of Harbour Esplanade and Collins Street in Docklands, linking MPavilion2015, the Hub@Docklands and recreational facilities.
Delivered by Development Victoria, the new outdoor space includes an exercise station, a ping pong table, landscaping and upgraded footpaths to encourage more visitors, workers and residents to use the area.
The space will have access to the Victorian Government’s free WIFI network, along with charging stations in seating areas.
Development Victoria’s General Manager Precincts, Simon Wilson said plans for the new area were developed following feedback from the community and the City of Melbourne.
“One of our key goals in Docklands is to deliver more open space for people to enjoy and this project achieves that,” he said.
“The upgrade complements the existing recreation spaces and sports courts, which are well used by residents and people working in the area.
“A key feature of the design is the use of timber recycled from the old Docklands’ wharves.”
As part of the project, new footpaths connect Waterview Walk and Harbour Esplanade, creating a consistent feel throughout the space from MPavilion2015 to the sports courts and the Hub@Docklands. New lawns looking over the sports courts provide areas for spectators to gather.
MPavilion2015 has also had a mini facelift following the retreatment of the decking boards.
