At Development Victoria, not only do we create places for people, but we are also a place where our people can thrive in unique and rewarding careers, enhanced by our diverse range of projects.
In a traditionally male-dominated industry, we are very proud of the gender balance we have achieved with 55% of our current workforce being women.
This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating some of the women working across our projects, and the steps we have taken as an organisation to improve equality for all our team members. This has included a reduction of our gender pay gap from approximately 16% down to 0.64% in December 2023, and paid superannuation for parental leave.
This year’s United Nations International Women’s Day theme is ‘Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress’. Senior Project Manager Anna Devlin and Design Director Kelly Macmorran are two of the women working on the Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation who shared some of their experiences with us.
Anna is the Senior Project Manager working on the State Theatre upgrades.
"It’s a very exciting opportunity to be a part of transforming the State Theatre and bringing it up to global contemporary standards. It’s one of the biggest stages in the world and to modernise and upgrade it, and be part of the team that does that is really incredible."
The work that we are doing to transform the Melbourne Arts Precinct is an opportunity to showcase Melbourne on a world stage.
Senior Project Manager, Anna.
Kelly is Design Director for the overall project, and also gave us insight into her experience on the city-shaping transformation.
The Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation is a complex infrastructure project, and my role is to work with individual project teams to deliver an outcome which seamlessly brings together these separate parts to create a single, cohesive precinct; a reimagined Melbourne Arts Precinct which marries the new with the old and which respects the past while making space for the future.
Design Director, Kelly.
Both women were asked what International Women’s Day means to them.
It’s an opportunity to showcase women in the workplace and their many contributions. It also promotes focusing on women’s issues around the world and shining a light on women’s experiences, and that’s important to me.
Kelly sees it as a day to reflect.
International Women’s Day is a day to reflect on the continuing and significant contribution of women in the design and construction industries.
We are proud to recognise and celebrate the important contributions from Anna and Kelly, their teams, and the countless others involved with bringing the Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation to life.
Development Victoria is the lead delivery agency for the Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation, which will deliver The Fox: NGV Contemporary – a new gallery dedicated to art and design, significant upgrades to Arts Centre Melbourne’s Theatres Building, and a new 18,000 square metre urban garden.
